Ludwig Borchardt acquired this Egyptian stone slab from an antiquities dealer in 1913. It is dated to the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep III approximately 1400 B.C. Much like columns found at the Temple of Soleb, this slab fragment depicts bound men representing tribes subservient to Egypt—each with an inscription. This particular set of inscriptions are people that came from the area east of Egypt and are named as “Ashkelon,” “Canaan,” and “Israel.”

Below is an artist’s recreation of the broken portion of this stone.
